Television

Why do I always get welled up during reality TV shows? It’s not right. Some might say that the mark of a good, decent show is if it can bring up an emotion. But I differ on this statement when you’re dealing with reality TV where they forcefully manipulate you with songs like “Hero” and the histrionics of desperate contestants. Needless to say, last night while watching American Inventor (eating apples, cheddar, Wheat Thins with Erica – I was waiting for Commander In Chief to come on) I did get emotional when the 19 year-old Colombian immigrant won his million dollars for his bike invention.

I get emotional during commercials sometimes too.

I enjoy letting out a good cry for a song or television show. I rarely cry from reading books. There’s one episode of Cold Case from season three that always gets me in the gut: this one.

Lately I’ve been eating up season two of Six Feet Under. Since I haven’t had cable since I lived with my parents and rabbit ears are often as temperamental as rabbits themselves, I’ve missed out on some popular culture. Now I’m playing catch up. I wasn’t so impressed with the first season, didn’t quite see what everyone was so intrigued by. But now, with almost every character trying to be a good person and still scratching their own underbellies I find it far more enticing. Something I can relate to.
